Barrow Hill

I will now be rating the game Barrow Hill. This game is a British horror game that was created by the same person who created the Dark Fall series. It is a first person perspective game just like all of the other games that Jonathan Boakes has made. This game has very creepy music which I feel heightens the suspense perfectly. This game is about an evil spirit or demon that is awoken when an archeological dig disturbs his resting place on Barrow Hill. It is then the job of the main character (whose name is never mentioned) to find the several items that the spirit wants as a sacrifice. He must then seal this spirit back into the tomb where it belongs before it claims the lives of him and everyone else in the country. Also when he is collecting the sacrifices he is at the same time being hunted be the spirits guardian (giant standing stone with the power to turn anyone it touches to a pile of burning flesh). I have heard that there will be a sequel to this game sometime in the future. I don’t know when exactly. But I hope that I won’t be waiting for too long to play it.

Nancy Drew Series

The next game on m list to be graded is the Nancy Drew series. I feel that this series receives one of my highest grades available. In this series there are over nineteen different games. Each game has its own interesting mystery that has to be solved. This game series is a first person perspective series with graphics that have been improving with every game released from the series. All of the mysteries can be classified under several different categories. There are murder mysteries, vandalism, kidnapping, robberies, and many other different kinds of mysteries to solve. For just about every game I liked the music that was played for it. My favorite part of these games would defiantly have to be the puzzles that have to be solved in order for the story to progress. Another interesting thing about the series is that in just about every single game in the series there are multiple hidden Easter eggs that can be found by the player. Sometimes they are physical eggs and sometimes they are hidden scenes that are hidden. So far I own and have completed all of these games except for the last two. I am looking forward to playing them in the near future.
My first Photoshop assignment is now finished. After finishing my first Photoshop assignment and participating in a peer preview, I feel very good about my work. I feel this way because I enjoyed the project, I like how my work looked in the end, and I received a lot of positive comments about my work from my peers. The part that I liked best about it was making the collage. I liked this part because I was able to express myself in a creative and colorful way. I cannot think of anything that I would have wanted to do differently. For me the most challenging part of this project was deciding on what the pictures were going to be about. I feel that the easiest part for me was actually creating the images. The tool that I had used the most was the filter effects. For the collage I used a different filter effect for each individual picture. I can’t think of any Photoshop lessons that were of any real help to me for this project.

NiBiRu

The next game to receive a grade from me is NI-BI-RU. This game is one of the few games that I graded with a slightly lower than usual rating. This game is a third person perspective game which has a great storyline that takes place in some very interesting places. This game is also helped with the suspenseful music that is played in the background. The plot of this game is about government secret conspiracies, murder, and the paranormal. These three things make a very enjoyable story to follow. The only problems that I see in this game have a lot to do with the graphics and audio. When you click the surroundings you would expect the character to walk directly to that location immediately, but instead he walks at a very slow pace to that place on the screen that is only a few feet away from him, but it seems to take him at least half an hour to walk just a few feet away. This is a very annoying part of the game. Another problem that I see is in the voice acting. For the most part the voice acting is fine, but every once and a while it sounds like the voice actors are reading their lines for the first time in their lives and have had no practice in taking as their characters should. This can at times slightly ruin the game for some people. So, for the most part this is a very enjoyable game, the only problems that I can see are all in the graphics and audio of the game.

Safecracker

A game that I think should receive a good grade for puzzle games would be Safecracker. This game has an interesting and slightly believable storyline for it. It is about a man who has gotten a reputation for being able to pick any lock. He is hired by a family to find their wealthy eccentric uncle’s will after he vanishes without a trace. His true passion in his life was collecting and building safes of many different variations. Everyone in the family believes that he had hidden his will in one of his many safes somewhere in his mansion. It is then the job of the safecracker to find the will by figuring out how to open over thirty different safes. This game has a 360 degree rotating screen for a first person perspective that has very good computer graphics. I feel that this game has a very good soundtrack that I think mixes well with the surrounding area and the plot. I feel that the best thing about this game would have to be the puzzles. Each safe that has to be opened can be difficult to open at times, but for the most part the safes can be opened just by using logic or common sense.

Mysterious Journey

The Mysterious Journey series is a very good science fiction puzzle adventure game series. The first game in the series is titled SCHIZM (Mysterious Journey). This game is a first person perspective game that has real actors in front of a green screen to put them in the graphics. I feel that the graphics in this game are some of the best available. All of the surroundings have been made to look like they are photographs taken with a low grade camera. The story line is very interesting and exciting. It takes place on a planet far away that is being investigated by scientists from earth to see if there is intelligent life on the planet. The main characters Sam and Hanna are piloting a ship to bring supplies to the scientists but lose control of the ship and crash on the planet which appears to be uninhabited. Sam and Hanna have to work together to figure out what happened to the scientists and the scientists and then find a way off the planet. The puzzles in this game can sometimes be too difficult for some people to figure them out without using a walkthrough. I am one of those people. Even though the puzzles may be a little too hard for some people handle, I feel that this game can be very enjoyable for many players that enjoy a good science fiction story.

Mysterious Journey II (Chameleon) is the next game in the series but has nothing to do with the first game in the series. The characters Sam and Hanna are not in this game. The graphics for this game are completely computer generated and uses a first person shooting interface. The storyline for this game is about a man named Sen Geder who awakens from a cryogenic stasis pod in a derelict space station. After he awakens a recorded hologram message tells him that he has been imprisoned on the station 214 years before he woke up as a punishment for causing a war on the nearest planet. But Sen has lost all of his memories, including his own name, and cannot remember anything about the crime. The message also tells him that the station will crash into the nearest planet in sixteen days and that will be his punishment. Sen has to then find a way off of the station and then try to find out what really happened all of those years ago by exploring the planet that he has been blamed for causing a war on. The puzzles in this game are for the most part exactly like the puzzles in the first game and most people will probably end up needing a walkthrough to finish the game. I again was one of those people. However I feel that this game will be very enjoyable for anyone who enjoys a good science fiction story.

Cameron Files

A very good detective computer game series is The Cameron Files. The first game in the series is Secret at Loch Ness. This game has a very exciting and suspenseful storyline that works well with the Scottish music that is played in the background. It is a first person perspective game with graphics that I feel has a rating of 8 out of 10. This game has several dead ends, so it is always important to save your game constantly and to think and act quickly when it is necessary. The plot of this game is mostly about a powerful crystal that was broken into three different pieces and given to three different families to protect them and to keep them from falling into the wrong hands. The plan failed, and Alan Parker Cameron has to find the crystals.

Pharaoh’s Curse is the second and most recent game in this series. This game, like the first one, has a very exciting and suspenseful storyline that mixes well with the Egyptian music that is played in the background. This game is also a first person perspective game like the first one. I feel that the graphics in this game has a rating of 10 out of 10, unlike the first one which only scored 8. Like in the first game there are several dead ends so it is important to save constantly and to think and act quickly when it is needed. The plot of this game is about an evil powerful pharaoh that has been brought back to life by German spies and is trying to take over the world. It is then up to Alan Parker Cameron to put him back to rest and to once again save the world.
